Independence, KS

I work now in Independence, Ks- about nine miles NNW of coffeyville. Ive been there for two weeks now and there are very few days without a nice storm. Many are severe- some carry tornadoes.
Weve seen hail the size of baseballs and tornadoes all over. The storm that flattened Picher, OK, let out three tornadoes in the area. Ive seen several, but none that touched the ground with damage. The coolest was a rope tornado that snaked out of a dark steel cloud. It hung from the front of the cloud and wrapped slowly to the west. It disappeared-poofed- in seconds.
Here is one sunset about a week ago- all sorts of cool clouds, flooding rains, big hail and even a rainbow with this'n. Note the still flags- no wind at all !
A SUNDOG- a rainbow high in the atmosphere formed when light bounces through a patch of dense Ice crystals. This one I found on the drive down there on cooler, sunny day.
